Oscar Snubs and Surprises
The nominations for the 84th annual Academy Awards were announced Tuesday morning and, as always, the list has elicited mixed reactions. Here are the saddest snubs and sweetest surprises:

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close gets extremely surprising and incredibly unexpected nominationExtremely Loud and Incredibly Close had been extremely absent at the guild awards, which is usually a good indication that a film will not be scoring at the Oscars. But Academy voters have always been suckers for a good cry, and even though it’s got a mediocre 48% at Rotten Tomatoes, they’ve elevated the tear-jerker’s status by nominating it for Best Picture.
